Faculty Awards

Each spring, Honors Convocation provides a means to honor students who have distinguished themselves by completing the best individual work in various academic disciplines. Austin College faculty members, too, are recognized for what they do best: teaching.

Austin College honors three individuals for teaching excellence each year. Two recognitions come in the form of nominations for Minnie Stevens Piper Professorship and CASE U.S. Professor of the Year competitions. The third honoree receives the College’s Excellence in Teaching Award. “The student accomplishments we recognize today are reflective of the excellent faculty of Austin College,” said Dr. Sheila Amin Gutiérrez de Piñeres, vice president for Academic Affairs and dean of the faculty, shown with the honorees.

Another 2014 Honors Convocation announcement: John Jennings, executive director of facilities, was presented the Board of Trustees’ Homer P. Rainey Award for Outstanding Achievement and Service to Austin College. John has been a dedicated member of the staff since 2001, and his input and oversight were invaluable during the construction and opening of the IDEA Center.
