Austin College Women Get Connected programs bring alumnae and friends of the College together for networking events and presentations with the goal of inspiring social change and empowering women to help others.
Participants in the Texoma program have decided to take things one step further—in fall 2012, the first Texoma Women Get Connected Academic Honors Scholarship at Austin College will be awarded to a female student from the Texoma community.
The Texoma group has plans to raise funds for additional scholarships that will be named to honor or memorialize local women. The group hopes to assist students through a scholarship endowment as well as provide scholarships for January Term study, Austin Teacher Program participants, and Global Outreach service projects.
“Support for these scholarships is an outgrowth of the generous spirit of the women of the region,” said Jill Roberts, who directs Austin College’s gratitude program. “There are so many inspiring leaders we would like to recognize, and we know there always is a need for student scholarships. It’s a perfect fit.”
Each scholarship will benefit a female student from the Texoma area, defined as Fannin, Cooke, and Grayson counties.
