Two Austin College graduates, Malcolm M. Feeley ’64 and Ronald Kirk ’76, were inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in September 2022. Feeley was elected in 2020 and Kirk in 2021, but due to COVID-related postponements, they were not inducted until 2022. The honorary society and policy organization, founded in 1870, elects exceptionally accomplished individuals and engages them in furthering the public good. Feeley, who is a professor at UC Berkeley School of Law, was acknowledged as being one of the three leading scholars from political science to make major contributions on the study of courts in the legal process, writing major books on the reality of lower courts. He is also an expert on criminal law and crime policy. Ron Kirk is Senior Of Counsel in Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher’s Dallas and Washington, D.C. offices. He is Co-Chair of the International Trade Practice Group and a member of the Sports Law, Public Policy, Crisis Management and Private Equity Practice Groups. Ambassador Kirk served as the 16th United States Trade Representative (USTR) and was a member of President Barack Obama’s Cabinet. Kirk also served as Texas Secretary of State from 1994 to 1995 and as Mayor of Dallas from 1995 to 2001.
