In support of the nation’s call for social distancing and to prohibit the spread of COVID-19, daily life at Austin College changed drastically March 23 when all faculty began to deliver their classes via remote-learning methods.
A small percentage of students continue to live on campus, having chosen to return to campus residences following an extended spring break. Essential campus services remain available for their health and safety. Campus offices are operating during normal hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., though many employees are working remotely, so contact should be via email or phone. See the campus directory.
All previously scheduled on-campus gatherings—lectures, workshops, performances, and student activities—were suspended through the end of the semester or until CDC recommendations change. Sports conferences had already canceled NCAA competition for spring. Alumni events, both on and off campus, were suspended.
Prospective Students
The spring term is also an important time for prospective students and their families as they make final college choice decisions. In keeping with social distancing admonitions, the Office of Admission has suspended campus visits until the CDC guidelines or public health officials allow more contact.
Prospective students and their families are invited to weekly virtual visits that will allow them to learn about the College from the safety of their homes. See Virtual Visits for more information. Admission staff members are available to support families in the college admission process and to respond to emails, calls and texts.
See Monitoring the Coronavirus for other Austin College information and updates.
